Conflicts of various sizes and duration have been a hallmark of human history.The outcome of such battles will depend on many factors including the strategies and tactics employed by the different combatants. Historically, deception and camouflage have been used to avoid the detection of troops and equipment and to deploy fighting elements closer to the enemy. In many ways the ongoing battle between the host and the potential pathogen during tissue colonization and infection resembles the picture in the larger arena of human conflict.
